Alfredo Madrid hizo historia con Trotamundos de Carabobo en la Superliga 2021. No solo se convirtió en el primer técnico venezolano en ser campeón, también es la primera persona que ocupó la silla de la presidencia en la Federación Venezolana de Baloncesto y que gana un título profesional en el país.
Madrid fue presidente de la FVB por un corto periodo de tiempo. El entrenador se hizo cargo del organismo luego que fuera destituido Bruno D’Addezio en una asamblea extraordinaria. Fue el jerarca durante la participación de Venezuela en el Suramericano U17.
En la Superliga, Trotamundos tuvo que trabajar duro. Luego de no participar en el primer torneo, perdieron los derechos sobre los jugadores que si jugaron en el circuito. Esto derivó a que la gerencia tuviera que hacer muchos movimientos. “Fue un reto. Me senté con Federico Rojas (gerente general) para comenzar a planificar la temporada. Le recomendé a jugadores como Carlos Milano que ya había estado con el en Chile y Elvis Báez. Trajimos muchachos con futuro como Bericoto, Meneses y Arian Amundaray y sacaron la cara”, comentó Madrid.
Y es que el Expreso Azul tuvo dos caras durante la temporada. Una con la base que tenía desde el primer día y una segunda que tuvo a Jhornan Zamora y David Cubillán como principales protagonistas que al final fueron fundamentales para el título.
Alfredo Madrid y el manejo de egos
Para nadie es un secreto que Trotamundos de Carabobo tenía una de las plantillas con más experiencia y talento en la fase final de la Superliga. Aunque también Alfredo Madrid tenía que manejar los egos de jugadores como Donta Smith. “Cada quién entendió su rol. Por ejemplo, Elvis fue el mejor del equipo en la ronda regular y sabía que con la llegada de David su rol era distinto”.
“Hubo momentos difíciles, pero supimos sortearlos. En primera ronda vivimos cosas duras como equipo y solventamos sobre la marcha”, comentó Alfredo Madrid.
Un premio a los criollos
“Yo he tenido varios maestros a lo largo de mi carrera. Venezolanos y extranjeros”, aseguró un emocionado Alfredo Madrid. “Néstor Salazar me dijo que yo estaba listo para dirigir y esto también es un logro para el y para todos los entrenadores criollos”.
Destacó la labor de entrenadores como Rubén Magnano, Gustavo Aranzana y Fernando Duró. El criollo también minimizó los roces que hubo a principio de temporada y aseveró que se tiene que trabajar por el desarrollo del baloncesto venezolano y basarse en el respeto mutuo.
“Los entrenadores venezolanos pasan muchas vicisitudes en su formación. Problemas económicos y logísticos, nosotros tenemos que ayudar, pero tenemos que recibir el apoyo para el desarrollo de nuestros preparadores”, argumentó Alfredo Madrid.
