Paredes, jugó en la segunda base y fue el tercer novato del año en la historia de las Águilas del Zulia en la temporada 1983-84.
Johnny Paredes era uno de los peloteros más queridos y respetados por la afición zuliana. Fue campeón con el Zulia en las campañas 83-84, 91-92, 92-93 y en la Serie del Caribe (1984).
Defendió los colores de las Águilas hasta el torneo 1992-1993 y terminó tercero en bases robadas (70) en la historia del club, además de ser uno de los 12 jugadores con al menos 300 hits (308) en la historia de la franquicia.
Paredes dejó su huella en las Mayores
En las Grandes Ligas jugó por espacio de tres años con los Expos de Montreal y Tigres de Detroit. En Japón vistió el uniforme de Yakult Swallows, conjunto con el que quedó campeón en 1992.
Cuando tomó su oportunidad en el “Big Show” hizo algo único para las Águilas. Fue el primer jugador reserva del Zulia, que fue firmado por una organización de Grandes Ligas y se estrenó en las Mayores. Hecho que ocurrió el 29 de mayo de 1988, con Montreal.
Disputó tres años en la Gran Carpa. Soltó 26 incogibles repartidos en tres biangulares y un jonrón. Sumó 11 remolcadas y 12 anotadas.
