Miguel Cabrera tiene motivos para pensar que está de regreso

Para muchos, los números no dicen todo. Puede ser cierto, especialmente en una disciplina tan complicada como el beisbol, que cuentan con infinitas vertientes y es tan cambiante que cada día las cifras cambian. Sin embargo, muchos números invitan a pensar que Miguel Cabrera recuperó ese swing que causaba temor durante la última semana.

Principalmente, Cabrera bateó para .480, producto de los 12 inatrapables que conectó en los 25 turnos que consumió en los últimos siete inatrapables. Durante esos encuentros, pegó un cuadrangular, por lo que su slugging fue de .640 y un promedio de embasado de .640.

Gracias a esas conexiones, Miguel Cabrera se convirtió en el octavo pelotero que consiguió 2.000 incogibles como miembro de los Tigres. En la lista se encuentran también Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Charlie Gehringer, Harry Heilmann, Sam Crawford, Lou Whitaker y Alan Trammell.

“Estoy feliz de llegar a los 2.000 con los Tigres y, más importante, porque estamos ganando juegos”, dijo el aragüeño a MLB. “Estamos creciendo como equipo y eso todos lo pueden ver en el terreno”.

Miguel Cabrera está feliz, y eso también se nota en el campo. Seguramente por los sorpresivos resultados que consigue Detroit en la temporada, pero especialmente porque su swing está de regreso. Cuando conecta pelotas, a diferencia de 2019 y comienzos de 2020, la pelota abandona el madero con potencia.

En la actual campaña, los batazos de Cabrera tienen un promedio de velocidad de salida de 92.1 millas por hora (MPH). Esa cifra lo dejan como el vigesimoctavo mejor en las todas las Grandes Ligas y mejor que otros toleteros como Trevor Story (91.5 MPH), Manny Machado (91.3) o Mookie Betts (90.8).

Precisamente esa fue la clave para su recuperación en la última semana. En los últimos siete encuentros, Miguel Cabrera golpeó siete pelotas con una velocidad superior a las 100 millas por hora y otras seis por arriba de las 95 MPH. Siete sencillos, un doble, un cuadrangular y líneas a los jardines fueron los resultados de esas conexiones.

“Está pasando algunos nombres que están en los libros de historia de la tradición del béisbol. Eso es simplemente increíble para un entrenador”, afirmó Ron Gardenhire, piloto de los Tigres. “Tienes la oportunidad de manejar a un tipo como este, pero tienes la oportunidad de verlo, lo cual es aún más divertido. Se divierte en el estadio. Espero que siga divirtiéndose y espero que siga bateando, porque realmente nos ayuda”.

Miguel Cabrera recuperó la alegría y la fuerza

En las Grandes Ligas, con la novedosa corriente de la sabermetría, instauró el Hard Hit (Conexiones fuertes) como una de las mediciones más importantes en la ofensiva. Para MLB cuando una conexión supera las 95 millas por hora de velocidad de salida, ya es considerada Hard Hit y debería tener un elevado porcentaje de ser exitosa.

 En 2020, el 48.4% de los batazos de Miguel Cabrera cumplen esos requisitos. Sin embargo, ahora la fortuna no acompaña al venezolano. Por segunda vez en su carrera el promedio de las pelotas en juego está debajo de los .300 (.244) a pesar que son bateadas con fuerza.

«Como digo todo el tiempo, es un honor jugar con él. Miguel es el mejor jugador con el que he jugado. Es un honor para mí estar aquí y ver todos los récords que puede romper e intentar ganar con él”, explicó Jonathan Schoop sobre el aragüeño.
