Elefantes blancos es una expresión bastante fuerte, bastante deprimente y de carácter involutivo. Eutanasia, denota tragedia y horror, aún más deprimente, pero con un ápice de búsqueda del honor. Los estadios de Venezuela pasaron de un recuerdo agradable y esplendoroso, a una etapa para borrar estos últimos años de vida, si se le puede llamar vida, que tanto dolor y lástima reparte a quienes vemos de cerca el estatus quo.
Así percibo cada uno de estos dos conceptos. No los busqué en el diccionario de La Real Academia Española, son conceptos que encontré en mi recuerdo. En esas caminatas que mi mente trae al presente, esas que hago mientras escribo estas líneas, en las que trato de entender la emocionalidad de esas imágenes. Sí, son las mismas caminatas que hago cuando llego a los estadios; cuando me bajo del autobús del equipo y me dirijo a los camerinos, a los baños, a la sala de masajes o las áreas de calentamiento. Esas mismas caminatas de emociones agradables cuando me dispongo a entrar a la cancha para comenzar el partido. Esas que graba mi inconsciente pero que no internalizo en el momento. Cómo duele caminar, conscientemente, por las áreas internas de los “nuevos estadios”, construidos para la Copa América.
Mis procesos creativos en la escritura nacen de la inquietud. Nacen de la necesidad de expresión, de algún estimulo del presente que reclama una injusticia que se arrastra del pasado o de alguna vivencia agradable que merece ser compartida.
Este proceso en particular, nace de uno de los módulos de Gestión y Gerencia Deportiva que imparte la plataforma online de Conmebol de la cual curso; en donde la temática era la organización de los mega eventos deportivos. Mencionaban la exitosa gestión organizativa de los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres en el 2012, pero también a los fracasos que se vivieron luego del Mundial de Suráfrica 2010.
En ese módulo mencionaban toda la debacle logística, institucional y de estructuras deportivas que cayeron en el abandono luego de esa Copa Mundial disputada en África, de ahí mi frase: elefantes blancos. No podía dejar de pensar en Venezuela, en los “nuevos estadios” construidos para lo que se supone que fue la mejor Copa América jamás realizada. La crisis y el deterioro del presente no representa el colorido y la festividad de ese evento celebrado en el país en ese momento.
Esta es una pregunta que todavía me hago: ¿valió la pena el precio pagado por toda la buena realización de la Copa América en Venezuela aquel año? Si respondiera hace siete años atrás, lo afirmaría rotundamente. Hoy, no estoy tan seguro.
Definitivamente, hubo un antes y un después en la cultura futbolística del venezolano luego de ser sede de la Copa ese año. Sin duda, el universo futbolístico en Venezuela se expandió exponencialmente. Pero, ¿qué me dicen de aquellos que pusieron las manos sobre las decisiones de nuestro futbol? ¿Era sostenibilidad u oportunismos? De ser así, ¿en qué grado y cuál era el alcance real?
Si me dejo llevar por estos últimos años disputando cada domingo en cada uno de esos estadios diría que esa etapa fue linda, pero no real. Fue alegre, pero no sana. Esos elefantes blancos están ahí, abandonados, sin dolientes. Sólo los fanáticos y jugadores que rezamos por verlos en buen estado, pero no es así. Esos estadios piden clemencia, piden su eutanasia, con tal de ser recordados por su mejor versión y por sus mejores presentaciones.
En mis últimas columnas se evidencia la queja, raro en mí, pese a que soy un optimista por naturaleza. Pero, este es un tema que lo amerita; supongo que de esto se trata el compromiso que asumí al hacer de estos espacios algo real. Emocional por mi vínculo con el deporte y mi deseo de darle lo que merece. Pero, definitivamente, real.
