El humilde equipo macedonio se fue arriba en el marcador con un gol de su eterno capitán, Goran Pandev. La anotación llenó de esperanzas al equipo que meses atrás clasificó a su primera Eurocopa. En el minuto 63 Ilkay Gundogan empató el partido desde el punto penal.

Se acercaba el final del encuentro y en el minuto 85 Eljif Elmas, jugador del Napoli en la Serie A, logró darle el triunfo a Macedonia y lograr la victoria más importante de su novel historia.

Macedonia y sus triunfos

Si vamos hacía atrás en el tiempo podremos ver que Macedonia ha tenido muchos triunfos en juegos oficiales y amistosos, pero la gran mayoría ha sido contra seleccionados inferiores. Liechtenstein, Luxemburgo, Malta, San Marino y Gibraltar han sido las víctimas predilectas del equipo.

Macedonia ha tenido triunfos interesantes como el que logró en 2012 frente a Serbia 1-0, un triunfo 2-0 ante Croacia en 2007 en las eliminatorias camino a la Euro 2008 y un par de triunfos en amistosos ante Turquía y Ecuador.

En la Eurocopa comparte grupo con Holanda, Ucrania y Austria. A los ucranianos también los venció en una ocasión, pero no ha podido hacerlo ante Austria ni Holanda. En junio Macedonia podría romper otro hito en el viejo continente.
