Ahora el delantero, ganador de la Copa América de 2015 y 2016, además de jugar el Mundial de Brasil 2014, trata de quemar sus últimos cartuchos en Coquimbo Unido; luego de pasar por Universidad de Chile, Chievo Verona, Grosseto, Palermo, Cagliari, Genoa y Atalanta (Italia), Sporting de Lisboa (Portugal), Celta de Vigo y Racing de Santander (España), Heart of Midlothian FC (Escocia) y Vasco da Gama (Brasil).
“Llegué el año pasado a Coquimbo no solamente poder aportar toda esa experiencia fuera de la cancha; sino en lo deportivo y lo futbolístico me sentía todavía con muchas ganas y con mucho fútbol para entregar. Hasta el momento se han cumplido las expectativas y espero seguir haciéndolo; ahora tengo un contrato por dos años en el cual espero seguir entregando más de los mismo”, expresó Pinilla.
Luego de un convulsionado paso por la U. de Chile, que le impidió volver al extranjero debido a una demanda judicial, a pesar de contar con ofertas de Argentina y México, Pinilla busca cerrar su carrera en el Pirata. Tal vez su último recuerdo futbolístico del país como jugador activo sea cuando enfrente al Aragua por la Copa Sudamericana en el estadio Olímpico de la UCV. “Seguramente terminaré mi carrera aquí”, finalizó.

Su entrenador en El “Pirata”, el argentino Germán Corengia, resaltó las virtudes que le generan al plantel contar con un futbolista de la experiencia de Pinilla.
“Nos ofrece mucha jerarquía dentro y fuera de la cancha. Venimos con un proceso con él, para poder encontrar su mejor nivel, como todos los jugadores que tenemos; pero tenemos un plantel nuevo y contamos con un jugador de un solo movimiento puede darle posibilidades a sus compañeros”, detalló.
Por su parte, el criollo Andrés Montero también se deshizo en elogios para su compañero en el frente de ataque. “Es algo increíble. Es un jugador de mucho peso, aprendes con él todos los días. Lo veía en la televisión en la Copa América y compartir con él aquí es algo muy importante”.
