El jinete venezolano Rigo Sarmiento cumple campaña en el hipódromo Zia Park, Nuevo México, Estados Unidos; y actualmente marcha líder por carreras ganadas.
Asumió el reto y ya posee 10 victorias. Desde el año pasado comenzó a buscar mejores rumbos en su carrera sobre los purasangres, pasando por Canadá y Filadelfia.
Sin embargo, siguió en la búsqueda de oportunidades, y ahora le abrieron las puertas en los hipódromos de Albuquerque y Zia Park.
Sarmiento, de 44 años edad, es ganador de 364 carreras entre Estados Unidos y Canadá, incluyendo 22 fotos en 2021.
Desde Nuevo México, accedió a conversar con Triángulo Deportivo, sobre su exitosa campaña en Zia Park.
“Aquí es un sistema diferente. Hay que galopar fuerte todas las mañanas, y primeramente, gracias a Dios; todo ha sido espectacular”, dijo.
“Comencé a ganar. La semana anterior logré 6 triunfos en tres días y todo está marchando perfecto. Me estoy dando a conocer y que todo salga de la mejor manera”, declaró Sarmiento. De Canadá viajó a Filadelfia buscando mejores oportunidades, pero no fue el plan esperado. “Cuando las puertas se cierran, no hay que buscar culpables. Realmente, no era para mí”, reveló.
Sarmiento, activo desde las 4:30 de la madrugada
El jinete venezolano contó su rutina diaria de trabajo en la pista de Zia Park.
“Me levanto a las 4:30 de la madrugada y me tomo mi café. La pista la están abriendo a las 6:30 de la mañana. Siempre galopo entre 8 y 10 ejemplares por día”, refirió.
“Primeramente, ejercito los caballos del entrenador Bart Hone, que es la cuadra por la cual vine a Zia Park. Luego, con la entrenadora Sherry Armstrong. Los dos me han ayudado bastante”, expresó.
Rigo Sarmiento admitió que actualmente no tiene muchas caballerizas que le están apoyando. “Son como tres o cuatro establos. Pero, ya me estoy dando a conocer y con mi agente Johnny Montes, aspiramos a montarle a los entrenadores líderes”, dijo.
El jinete venezolano está consciente que “en todos los hipódromos del mundo, lo que vende es que tus pases la raya adelante. Y ese es lo que estamos enfocados”, manifestó.
Se quedará en Nuevo México
Rigo Sarmiento informó que seguirá montando en los hipódromos de Nuevo México. Pero, siempre evaluando su rendimiento.
“Muchos que están ahora compitiendo en Zia Park, se mudarán al meeting de Sunland Park, en El Paso, a unas 4 horas de acá. Para allá iremos a montar a mediados de diciembre”, señaló.
Recalcó que su anterior agente en Canadá le hizo una oferta para regresar. “Pero, sería una segunda opción. Por los momentos, seguiré en Nuevo México”, dijo.
Sarmiento recordó a la afición hípica y su permanencia en el Hipódromo La Rinconada.
“Agradecido por estar pendiente de mi campaña en los Estados Unidos. Un gran abrazo, un saludo a toda la afición hípica, ese gran hipismo venezolano. Se les quiere y se les aprecia, bendiciones”, se despidió.
