Billy Joe Saunders el nuevo reto del Canelo

Billy Joe Saunders rivalizará contra el mexicano Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez el próximo 8 de mayo. El británico atendió el llamado del peleador de Jalisco en un “live” desde su casa con un sugerente delantal de cocina. La pelea luce como un gran reto para el tapatío.

Tras una pelea que fue considerada de “vergüenza” frente al turco Avni Yildirim, Canelo tenía la obligación de buscar un rival fuerte y Billy Joe Saunders lo es. El peso supermediano le ha asentado bien el azteca, pero el inglés es un incansable pegador y su estilo podría hacer mella en Álvarez.

Saunders es un zurdo con un estilo muy movedizo que podría poner en aprietos al Canelo. El británico se mantiene invicto en 30 combates y ha terminado 14 por la vía del nocaut. En su carrera amateur solo perdió dos peleas.

Con este “background” se espera una gran contienda entre Saunders y Álvarez. Aún no se ha dictaminado el lugar en el que se realizará la pega, pero Miami dejó buenas sensaciones en la noche que enfrentó al mexicano contra el turco.

La pelea será unificatoria. Canelo es el campeón supermediano de la Asociación Mundial de Boxeo, la Federación Internacional de Boxeo y el Consejo Mundial de Boxeo, mientras que Saunders es el monarca de la división de la Organización Mundial de Boxeo.

Saunders una tabla de reivindicación

Pelear contra Saunders y ganar de buena forma callaría la boca de los detractores del Canelo Álvarez. El oriundo de Jalisco siempre ha tenido aristas en su carrera por elegir a peleadores menores, y cuando ha tenido rivales de peso cedió, como con Floyd Mayweather Jr. la única derrota del mexicano.

La pelea contra Saunders no será nada fácil y eso serviría para que el Canelo se reivindique tras el deplorable espectáculo que mostró frente a un Yildirim que no enseñó nada en los tres rounds que estuvo en la contienda.

De vencer a Saunders el Canelo se quedaría con pocos rivales disponibles para continuar su carrera. El azteca fue consultado si subiría de categoría y aseguró que “si el público lo quiere se hará”.

Por su parte de ganar Saunders tomaría un “boost” importante para el resto de su carrera dentro del pugilato. Su gran victoria hasta ahora fue contra Chris Eubank Jr. y con David Lemieux, ambos peleadores que están en un segundo escalón dentro la disciplina.
